Meeting Overview

The Ridge 2000 Program is ready to capitalize on nearly a decade of multi-disciplinary experiments and observations at its Integrated Study Sites (ISS) and Time Critical Studies (TCS) sites by promoting in-depth discussions, data sharing, and the preparation of synthesis manuscripts addressing interdisciplinary topics. Data integration and synthesis are central to the successful completion of the Ridge 2000 Program (click here for R2K Data Portal). R2K aims to develop new conceptual and empirical models of ocean spreading center processes. Integration and synthesis will also generate ideas and questions that could form the basis for research programs after Ridge 2000 funding ends in 2012.

Participants in the 2010 Community Meeting were asked to select one or two Thematic and ISS Working Groups. The groups will work together before, during, and following the meeting toward integrating and synthesizing knowledge on that topic or study site, and then write one or more synthesis manuscripts.

The Organizing Committee (Milene Cormier, Dionysis Foustoukos, Breea Govenar, Jim Holden, and Ken Rubin) encourages participation by a broad spectrum of scientists, including graduate students, early career researchers, scientists peripheral to the Ridge 2000 community, and senior scientists with long histories of Ridge 2000 and RIDGE program research.
